Pastor Wendell Croy, 59, of Cornerstone Family Worship Center in Greenville, called Sunday for the removal of any school library book containing “sentences that go on for more than a comfortable length of time.” Croy, addressing a congregation of approximately 2,200, defined a comfortable sentence as “between four and nine words, like Jesus would have said.” He cited Toni Morrison, William Faulkner, and “whoever wrote the long ones” as examples of authors whose work “doesn’t reflect family values, or, frankly, good pacing.” Croy concluded his sermon by reading aloud from a single Post-it note.
