Naperville mother and self-published author Kelli Brustmann, 38, successfully petitioned the District 203 school board Tuesday to remove her own 2019 memoir, “My Year of Honest Living,” from the high school library, citing “language I now regret” and “a chapter about my divorce I had honestly forgotten was in there.” Brustmann, who initially donated the book to the school in 2020, said she had not realized until last week’s PTA meeting that her son’s English teacher had assigned a single excerpt. “I was challenging another book and they asked if I had any others, and I sort of panicked,” said Brustmann. The book has been removed pending a 60-day review.
